2008 Fiat 500 Ferrari Limited Edition

Two hundred exclusive Fiat 500 for the Ferrari sales network

Fiat 500 and Ferrari: two universal motoring icons which represent “Made in Italy”, one cute and the other exclusive. This is why the Maranello House has chosen the Fiat model as its “courtesy car” for its customers, who appreciate Italian style and like unique products.

In actual fact, two hundred Fiat 500 have been manufactured exclusively for the Ferrari sales network and will be driving on all of Europe’s roads.

Based on the Sport version and distinguished by the traditional red color, the two hundred Fiat 500 specials are fitted with the lively 1.4 6v 100 bhp engine and offer specific tuning and exhaust in perfect harmony with the sporty spirit of the “prancing horse”: these two features are designed and made by Magneti Marelli, a leading components company in the Fiat Group which has supplied high-tech parts to Fiat and Ferrari for years. The same sporty theme can also be found in some aesthetic details such as the red calipers, sporty pedal set, special black steering wheel with red stitching and 16” alloy wheels with 195/45 tires.

Compared to the already richly equipped Sport version, the Fiat 500 customised for Ferrari also has automatic climate control, electric sunroof, prestigious Frau leather interior, hi-fi, fog lights, numbered plate on the dashboard and “Limited Edition” wording on the kick plate.

The Ferrari network will thus be able to offer its customers a special car where the choice of every detail is the result of meticulous care and craftsmanship.

With this original initiative, the Fiat 500 model is confirmed both as a real “platform” on which Fiat is creating exclusive limited editions and as a successful car capable of winning over the general public, as demonstrated by the 222 thousand orders so far received.

Ferrari at 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Ferrari at 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Ferrari will be present at the Goodwood Festival of Speed once again this year with a diverse array of exotic and beautiful cars on display, including the UK debut of the performance class-leading 430 Scuderia in Fiorano Ferrari livery and a truly unique 612 Scaglietti which recently completed a 13,000 km journey around India on the Ferrari Magic India Discovery Drive which took place from March to May earlier this year. Together with a stunningly capable 599 GTB Fiorano, these cars will be located in The Sunday Times Supercar Paddock and will be the main attractions of The Sunday Times Supercar Run which takes place twice each day, in the early morning and around mid-day.

The 430 Scuderia is Ferrari’s latest high-performance mid-engined V8 car, with an incredible 510hp from a naturally-aspirated 4.3 liter engine, and several weight-saving initiatives which reduce the weight of the car by 100kg over the F430 Coupe. The 430 Scuderia is the first Ferrari to combine the dynamic advantages of the Electronic Differential of the F430 Coupe with the F1-Trac traction control system which made its debut on the 599 GTB Fiorano in 2006. The car also features several aerodynamic innovations, such as the patented “base bleed” which was developed by the FXX team and makes a significant contribution to the car’s overall dynamic and aerodynamic capabilities.

This particular 430 Scuderia will be appearing in dynamic Fiorano Ferrari livery and is one of five 430 Scuderia cars which Ferrari GB makes available for Ferrari customers in the UK through the exclusive Fiorano Ferrari membership to drive at some of the best and most challenging Formula One circuits in the UK and around Europe. Fiorano Ferrari members also benefit from several other exclusive opportunities, such as VIP Ferrari hospitality at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and membership is open to any Ferrari owners in the UK. For more information about Fiorano Ferrari, please visit www.fioranoferrari.com

Following it in the Supercar Run is a very special 612 Scaglietti in a unique livery which it wore on a recent tour of India, covering over 13,000 km over 72 days on a journey which saw more than 50 journalists from all over the world participate in another of Ferrari’s grand adventures of grand trans-continental travel. The car received only a few minor modifications from standard to cope with the often rough terrain as it travelled around the Indian sub-continent: a ride height increased by 4mm and aluminium underbody protection. This 612 Scaglietti also features a new stratified electrochromic panoramic roof which lends the interior an unparalleled sense of space and airiness, with three levels of glass tint that can be selected to suit varying levels of sunlight.

Ferrari’s third icon of the Supercar Run is the acclaimed 599 GTB Fiorano – voted EVO’s “Car of the Year” and the only GT car granted a 5-star status by Autocar, in addition to a host of other similar awards from the international media. The 599 GTB Fiorano has a development of the iconic Enzo’s 6.0 liter V12 engine, and generates an earth-spinning 620hp which propels the car to 60mph in only 3.7 seconds, while still retaining the comfort and exclusivity of this flagship performance two seater that carries on the tradition started with the similarly iconic 550 Maranello and 575M.

Also making a star appearance at this year’s Festival of Speed is the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro F1 team, with F1 test driver Marc Gene thrilling crowds with demonstration runs in the F2007 car which Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa drove to win the F1 Constructors and Drivers Championship last year. With both titles in 2007, Ferrari extended its record tally of Championships to an incredible 15 Constructors’ titles and 15 Drivers’ titles, strengthening the Prancing Horse’s continued position as the most successful F1 team of all time.

Ferrari Meridian F80 Sound System

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Ferrari Meridian F80 Sound System

Formula One world champions Ferrari and Meridian Audio, the world’s finest high-end audio and video manufacturer, have jointly developed the ultimate all-in-one digital sound system. Designed to appeal both to the eye and to the ear, the Meridian F80 (shown right) combines some of the best technology from both companies. The result is a beautiful piece of design that delivers superb room-filling music.

This transportable digital sound system, which bears both the Meridian marque and Ferrari prancing horse insignia, incorporates a CD/DVD player, AM/FM and DAB radio, and is compatible with any type of MP3 player including the iPod. The high-performance device distills more than three decades of Meridian’s award-winning audio know-how and passion for music into a single, elegant package. The body of the F80 features a high-tech lightweight mineral-filled composite as used on Formula One and road-going Ferraris. It provides astonishing rigidity and high-dimensional stability to maximise the performance of the built-in loudspeakers.

‘The body of the new F80, developed in collaboration with Ferrari, helps make for an astonishingly rich musical experience,’ says Bob Stuart, chairman and co-founder of Cambridge UK-based Meridian. ‘Even music you are intimately familiar with will sound fresh and new. We want customers to discover the whole picture, the full performance, pure and without distortion. When that happens you get very close to the original intention and feeling behind the music. This is what matters to us at Meridian whether we’re revealing the nuances of a piano concerto or the energy of a rock concert.’

The F80 may be small but the sound is big and immediately engaging. It can fill a large living room with superb quality CD or MP3 music, act as a morning wake-up call, be hooked up to the computer to deliver stunning sounds or taken on holiday for home-away-from-home entertainment.

The low-resonance high-mass composite shell, developed in conjunction with Ferrari, ensures that the cabinet offers superb musical integrity irrespective of the volume level. The left and right stereo drivers are special ‘full range’ designs and have powerful neodymium magnets, die-cast chassis, high-temperature voice coils and specially designed cones fashioned from magnesium and aluminium alloy. The circuitry driving this unique system uses the highest quality ‘audiophile’ components. The crossover – the system that feeds the left, right and bass loudspeakers with the correct sounds – is a special DSP (digital signal processing) design: a concept invented by Meridian.

Meridian sound systems have long been a ‘best kept secret’ among discerning music cognoscenti. Meridian has become legendary for its stylish products that create breathtaking high-definition images and stunning surround-sound. The company is a master of accurately reproducing the auditory and visual ‘clues’ that help create images of sound and colour with such purity and integrity that it is as if you hear them through the ears of the record producer or see them through the eyes of the film director. Beyond creating extraordinary sound, Meridian has always set new standards for elegant, iconic design, with, for example, the classic 1970’s Lecson hi-fi, designed by Meridian founders Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd, on permanent display in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

However, following a recent partnership with high profile investors, including luxury Swiss goods group Richemont and Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan (best known for Pretty Woman, Fight Club, LA Confidential and The Devil’s Advocate), a much wider audience is starting to hear about Meridian and to enjoy the authentic sound it offers.

The F80, set to become a design classic itself, is Meridian’s first collaboration with Ferrari, the legendary Italian sports and racing car manufacturer. It is available in five Ferrari colours – Rosso Corsa (red), Giallo Modena (yellow), Argento Nurburgring (silver), Nero (black) and Bianco Avus (off-white). It is sold through Meridian and Ferrari retailers and has a recommended retail price of £1,495. And, with such an accessible retail price, the F80 brings the Ferrari and Meridian experience to more people than ever.

The F80 and all other Meridian systems and components are available at selected purveyors of luxury hi-fi equipment across the UK. Stockist details are listed at www.meridian-audio.com . Ferrari cars and accessories, including the F80, are available from only the finest dealers across the UK. Further information about Ferrari and dealer selections are listed at www.ferrari.co.uk .

The Official Ferrari Magazine Releases

The Official Ferrari Magazine Releases

The Official Ferrari Magazine, the new publication for Ferrari clients worldwide, opens with a truly unique interview. Produced in collaboration with world lifestyle publications leader, Condè Nast, the first issue of the magazine sees Ferrari President and Fiat Group Chairman Luca di Montezemolo being interviewed by Michael Schumacher. One of the many questions posed by Schumacher, who is well aware of Montezemolo’s reactions when a GP doesn’t go well, was: “President, how many TVs have you smashed on my account after watching F1?” to which Montezemolo replies “I’d say four” with Schumacher joking “It’s a good thing you didn’t send me the bill then…”

Ferrari Magazine is a lively and interesting mix of cars, racing culture, fashion and design seen from the point of view of the Ferrari world and the passionate individuals who buy these superb cars.

The first issue includes, for instance, a lively conversation between two famous Ferrari clients, musician Nick Mason and singer Jason Kay, and an interview with architect Renzo Piano who reveals his concept of creativity through his extraordinary plans for the architectural development of the Maranello factory. Issue number 1 also includes a feature on the new Ferrari California with beautiful illustrations so realistic that they really make the reader want to reach out and touch it. Formula 1 is covered through the codes used in the Grands Prix with Massa and Raikkonen starring as magical protagonists in a world that is at once always the same and always different.

Other themes addressed in the first issue of The Official Ferrari Magazine include a fascinating dissertation on the role of Italian art, design and culture in the evolution of Ferrari taste and style written by the legendary Stephen Bayley, as well as a piece on the role played by unique choices in lifestyles written by top Vogue journalist Harriet Quick, who introduces the Ferrari Scaglietti One to One personalisation programme.

The large format (330×240) 180-page magazine is published in English only to embrace its worldwide target and does not neglect the world of fashion either. That subject is covered in a truly fascinating photo spread that sees the Ferrari apparel range photographed with pieces from the top international designer collections by one of the most sought after photographers of the moment, Robert Wyatt.

The official Ferrari Magazine editor-in-chief Antonio Ghini, who has been part of the team brought in by Montezemolo to turn around Ferrari’s fortunes for 15 years now, is flanked by a high profile team, including renowned journalist Jason Barlow as Editor and Rebecca Smith (formerly of Wallpaper and Vogue) as Art Director. It will be published quarterly with each edition focusing on a particular theme: the first issue, for example, takes the world of signs as its subject. It will be followed by issues on language, colours, design and so forth. The fourth issue each year, published in December, will be extended to 280 pages and will replace the traditional Ferrari Yearbook published throughout its history by the Prancing Horse for its friends and collaborations. This issue will continue the tradition of revisiting the year just gone by with significant space dedicated to the Formula 1 season, new models and, in the 2008 edition, Ferrari’s Magic India Discovery tour which saw two Ferraris driven across the subcontinent by a relay of international journalists.

The launch of the official Ferrari magazine has been greeted with enormous interest by the international advertising world. The initial 30,000 copies will all be sent directly to Ferrari owners who we are confident will welcome the new magazine warmly and collect it carefully. Ferrari owners are the perfect target readership both in socio-economic terms and in terms of an interest in reading about Ferrari and the companies that choose to be part of this exclusive publication.

In response to huge demand for subscriptions from enthusiasts also, Ferrari has decided, whilst retaining the exclusivity of the project, to make an initial batch of subscriptions available at a price of 250 Euro per year for the four issues. To support this activity a call centre (+39 02 6423386) and an e-mail address multi-language (subscriptionmagazine@ferrari.it) have been created.

Ferrari California Test Drive By Prancing Horse President

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Ferrari California

The new Ferrari California, 2+ convertible, had a very special “test-driver” behind its wheel the last few days as the Prancing Horse President Luca di Montezemolo put it through its paces over several laps at the Fiorano circuit.

“I am very satisfied indeed with the work that the women and men of Ferrari have done,” declared Luca di Montezemolo. “The California is an extraordinary car and I was delighted with the performance, comfort and driving pleasure it delivered. The California is, like all of our models, the epitome of cutting-edge innovation. Its gearbox, suspensions and chassis are the most advanced possible.

“This is the first dual-purpose Spider/Coupe with a retractable hard top that closes in just 14 seconds. Despite its extraordinary performance, the California 2+ is also exceptionally easy to drive and has a space behind the front seats that makes it supremely flexible in terms of usage.”

The latest photographs of the new Pininfarina-styled retractable hard top convertible released today show it with its top closed and in an Azzurro California livery. Azzurro California was the color chosen for the legendary 1960s spider’s appearance at the New York Auto Show in 1962 and proved one of the firm favorites with owners of that model too.

Like the rest of the current Prancing Horse range, the Ferrari California has been aerodynamically designed to deliver significant downforce values – 70 kg at 200 km/h, in fact.

This is the first time too that the new 7-speed dual clutch has been used on a Ferrari car. This technology is the fruit of in-depth gear shifting systems research by the Scuderia Ferrari. The system utilised on the Ferrari California cuts the gear shifting time to zero and enhances to the utmost the car’s performance in terms of comfort and driveability.

Performance is further boosted by the new Launch Control button which when hit delivers blistering high performance starts by ensuring correct torque delivery and preventing tire spin during acceleration.

The car is 4560 mm in length, 1900 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2700 mm.
The luggage capacity of the Ferrari California provides further proof of the versatility of this latest addition to the Prancing Horse range: when the roof is up, the boot has a 360-litre capacity and a 260-litre capacity when it is down.

For the first time on a Prancing Horse car, the boot and cabin communicate directly, allowing a choice of luggage configurations to be used.

Particular attention was also paid to fuel consumption levels which in the case of the ECE combined cycle is 13.2 l/100 km with CO2 emission levels of around 310 g/km.

Edo Competition Tuned Ferrari 630 Scuderia

Edo Competition Tuned Ferrari 630 Scuderia

edo competition Motorsport GmbH, one of the top names in sophisticated modifications of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche cars is now introducing the brand new “edo 630 Scuderia” aerodynamics package for the Ferrari 599 GTB!

The aim was to underline the perfect shapes of the Ferrari 599 GTB and to adapt the aerodynamics to higher top speed and meet the increased cooling demands caused by the improved power output without compromising the styling of the car.

The flow-optimized front apron features an enlarged cooling air inlet which improves the engine’s thermal balance. The larger center inlet also provides cool air for the brakes, thereby increasing their service life and fade resistance. In addition to that the front spoiler lip improves downforce on the front axle.

The newly developed side skirts reduce crosswind sensitivity and improve wheel arch ventilation in combination with the new rear apron. To achieve this, a new undertray with a wider diffuser – now with 6 blades – was mounted on both sides to enhance rear axle downforce at high speeds. Additionally a carbon fiber lip is mounted on the trunk lid to provide extra stability and rear downforce.

Naturally all parts are made from ultra-lightweight carbon fiber, which means a weight reduction of nearly 50 kg (110 lb) is a welcome side effect of this aerodynamics package.

Ferrari F430 GTC Challenge at 2008 Silverstone

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Ferrari F430 GTC Challenge

The “competition” versions (Challenge and GTC) of the F430 will be competing this coming weekend at the Silverstone circuit in England.

The F430 Challenge cars will be taking part in the second round of this season’s European Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy, while the F430 GTC will be making their debut in the FIA GT Championship, where they will be going for a repeat of the clean sweep they achieved over the past two years, when they took the Drivers’, Constructors’ and Teams’ titles, thanks to AF Corse.

More than 50 cars will take part in the English leg of the Prancing Horse one-make series, representing no less than 23 countries. After doing the double in Monza, Austria’s Philipp Baron (Baron Service) comes to Silverstone as favourite, thanks to a 14 point lead over Frenchman Ange Barde in the Pirelli Trophy classification. Heading the Shell Cup is an Italian driver, in the shape of Walter Forer (Rossocorsa/Pellin), ahead of fellow countryman Gianluca Carboni (Kessel) and Englishman Michael Cantillon (Ferrari GB Dealer Team).

Ten F430 GTC will line up for the start of the first FIA GT race, split between six teams. Among the drivers, worthy of note the presence of reigning champion, Toni Vilander: the Finn races as part of a pairing with Italy’s Gimmi Bruni, who finished second in 2007. In fact, Bruni, along with Robert Bell, won the first race of the LMS series in a GTC, held at Barcelona back on 6th April. On the same day, Dirk Mueller and Dominik Farnbacher took victory at St. Petersburg (USA) in the second round of the ALMS series.

Clearly, the work of the Corse Clienti department moves on at quite a pace. Apart from the racing activity, there is also the FXX programme and that linked to the historic Formula 1 cars, which got underway last weekend in Shanghai, as part of the second running of the Ferrari Festival, which saw over 60 Cavallino cars take part in an event aimed at owners and fans of the marque, in the Far East. Several FXX cars and three Formula 1 single-seaters were on track, all part of the past 15 years of Scuderia history: the F310, the model Michael Schumacher took to his first Grand Prix victory for Ferrari back in 1996 and the title winning F2003-GA and the F2004, which were world champions in 2003 and 2004, as used by Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.

2008 Mansory Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Stallone In detail

Monday, April 7th, 2008

2008 Mansory Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Stallone

As a specialist for customisation of Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls Royce automobiles, MANSORY has long been an institution. Now, the company from Brand in Bavaria has tackled the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. With luxurious as well as sporty modifications, MANSORY proves that the company also has a clear understanding of customising Italian super sports cars. Especially light body components made of carbon, a powerful increase to the engine performance and an interior covered with the finest ostrich leather fulfil the car desires of the exclusive clientele.

More Bounce for the Italian Stallion

MANSORY pays special attention to performance optimisation with which the car from Maranello made the sprint from zero to 100 kph two tenths faster than the series version (3.7 seconds). The propulsion is only over at 340 kph. Thus the modification, called the Stallone, impressively fills the gap to the fast, 350 kph sports car brother, the Enzo. The engine components newly developed by the MANSORY technicians are responsible for this. The performance kit includes high-performance compressors and custom made intercooling. The supercharging of the V12 power train is supported by a sport air filter with higher air throughput as well as modified control electronics. This increases the performance of the large 6.0 litre twelve cylinder engine from 620 to 720 HP. The torque increased by an additional 92 Nm. The sport rear muffler made of stainless steel underscores the sporty appearance of the MANSORY Stallone with its impressive sound.

Perfect Symbiosis: the MANSORY forged turbine-wheel and the Dunlop Sport Maxx

In order to accommodate the increased performance, the company developed especially light forged wheels with a 9 x 20 inch size for the front axle and 11.5 x 21 inch for the back axle. At only 13 kg for one of the front axle rims, the MANSORY wheel is one of the absolute lightweights. By using weight-saving aluminium alloys and with the resulting reduction of the unsprung mass, the acceleration, breaking distance as well as the handling are improved considerably. The SP Sport Maxx model of Dunlop high-performance tyres developed together with MANSORY are a perfect match. The front tyres are 255/30 and the back ones are 325/30. The suspension spring also creates a sporty flair, which lowers the centre of gravity of the super sports car by 30 millimetres and moreover emphasises the wheel/tyre combination even more.

Featherweight: Sleek looking packet made of carbon

The MANSORY Stallone is given its optical finishing touch by the uplift-reducing aerodynamics kit made of carbon. This material is already used amply in the base model of the Fiorano. Here, MANSORY goes one step further and uses carbon with the highest surface quality for all of its chassis components. As a result of the modification measures, the weight is reduced to the series components. Part of the expressive front structure is a down force generating front end with special air intakes for ventilating the new intercooler. The Mansory side skirts steady the airflow between the axes and moreover give the vehicles an aggressive sporty look. The newly designed rear with the integrated diffuser stabilised the rear axle and provides the necessary extra down force. The MANSORY Stallone acquires its highly individual flair through the side flared wing arches.

Luxurious Interior in Ostrich Leather

The most exquisite materials, processed with the greatest traditional craftsmanship distinguish the interior of the MANSORY Stallone. The leather used by MANSORY for the interior is particularly durable but still extremely soft. The unique grain of the unusual leather combined with the stylish ornamental seams and the exposed carbon appliqués convey both elegance as well as sportiness in the interior. Masterful handiwork, individual styling, and the highest quality is found wherever one chooses to look. The pedals made of aluminium, the illuminated door entry strips and the ergonomically redesigned sport steering wheel create additional optical highlights.
