Paintings created with remote control cars

Visitors to the British International Motor Show will be able to check out unique renderings of a pair of very special cars on the Chevrolet stand.

The paintings, of the Camaro Convertible and Beat concept cars – both of which are the stars of the Chevrolet stand, are the work of 25-year old artist Ian Cook from Solihull, West Midlands. But instead of creating the images with a simple paintbrush, Ian used a somewhat unique method of artistry.

The images were created using remote control cars driven through acrylic paints, with further detail added by using old car tyres. As well as cars, Ian has also painted some famous figures from the world of motoring using the same method, including Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and F1 ace Lewis Hamilton.

“I wanted to be an artist from a young age and decided that to be successful I needed something completely unique,” said Ian. “I’ve always been mad about anything with wheels and I figured that using cars to paint cars would capture peoples’ imaginations, so I experimented at home by driving some remote control models through paint.”

Ian, who calls his art Popbang Colour, used a host of replica GM cars to create the Camaro, including three models of the Camaro Concept itself, live on the show’s opening day. He also created an image of the Beat minicar concept, both of which will be on display in the Chevrolet Drivers’ Lounge for the duration of the show.

But those who want to see Ian create a masterpiece in person should pop along to the Motor Show, at London’s Excel exhibition centre, Docklands, on the final day of the event – Sunday August 3 – from 10.00am.

There, Ian will be using his unique painting method to create an image of British racing star Rob Huff’s Chevrolet Lacetti World Touring Car, a week after the series visits the UK for its annual visit to Brands Hatch.

“I can’t wait to get started on the racing car,” said Ian. “With the intricate liveries and body kits, competition cars require an extra level of detail, and that’s where you need skill with the remote control cars.”

One thing’s for certain – Ian’s next creation is sure to go with a bang. Or maybe even a pop…

Chevy Aveo 3-Door Europe Version

Posted by: Carnews | Comments (0)

Chevy Aveo 3-Door Europe Version

The highlight of this year`s Chevrolet Europe presentation at the Geneva Motor Show is the new three-door Aveo, which will be shown to the public for the very first time. It underlines Chevrolet`s firm intention to quickly extend its successful compact class family, as the new five-door model is due to go on sale in March. The most significant features of both models are their striking exterior, high-quality interior and new, even more efficient gasoline engines. The dynamically styled three-door Aveo will reach European showrooms in June 2008. Buyers will have a choice of two gasoline engines: a 1.2-litre unit with an output of 84 hp and a 1.4-litre unit with 101 hp.

One year ago, the Geneva Motor Show saw the official birth of “Young? Creative? Chevrolet!”, the pan-European contest aimed at students of applied arts schools. Today, twelve months later, auto show visitors will be able to see one of the fruits of this successful initiative: The hostesses on the Chevrolet stand will wear the outfit that won first prize in Fashion, one of five disciplines covered in the contest. The dresses were designed by 20-year-old Léa Schindler, a student at the ESMOD International Fashion School in Lyon, France.

2008 6.2L V-8 Chevy Tahoe LTZ

Expanding its range of capabilities, Chevrolet now offers a new, 6.2L small-block V-8 in the Tahoe LTZ in 2008. Rated at 380 horsepower (283 kW) and equipped with advanced technologies, it is the most powerful engine offered in the Tahoe lineup. The new engine is backed by a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission.

“Tahoe LTZ’s new 6.2L engine highlights the wide range of choices available to Chevy customers,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “It also reinforces the Tahoe’s position as the most capable full-size SUV on the market.”

The Tahoe LTZ 6.2L is available on 2WD models and bolsters a lineup that already includes a variety of powertrain options, capabilities and fuel solutions, including the all-new Tahoe Hybrid and models that are capable of running on E85 ethanol.

Advanced technologies, including variable valve timing, and a lightweight aluminum cylinder block optimize the performance and efficiency of the 6.2L engine; and its 380 horsepower (283 kW) is complemented by a strong torque output of 417 lb.-ft. (565 Nm)*.

A six-speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 RWD electronically controlled automatic transmission is paired with the 6.2L engine. Like all Tahoe models, the new, Tahoe LTZ with the 6.2L engine is built on a sturdy architecture that features a stiff, boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and a premium interior that bolsters the vehicle’s comfort, quality and capability. Wide front and rear tracks enhance handling and lower the center of gravity for a more confident road feel.

With its uplevel trim and amenities, the Tahoe LTZ is offered with a variety of popular standard and available features, including:

-Power-release fold-and-tumble second-row seat
-Remote vehicle starting system
-First- and second-row heated seats
